New York City will have a curfew imposed to crack down on protest violence, and more cops will be on the streets Monday night to assist that effort, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a radio interview. The curfew will run from 11 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, and then be reassessed Tuesday, Cuomo said in a WAMC interview. City Hall later clarified that essential workers, people experiencing homelessness and those seeking medical attention will be exempt. Almost five hours before the newly announced curfew was set to take effect, thousands of demonstrators were marching for a fifth day in New York City. Approximately 1,000 protesters chanting "no more black blood on our streets" were gathered in front of Restoration Plaza in Bedford-Stuyvesant while a separate crowd, also roughly 1,000 in size, moved from Times Square to Washington Square Park. At the park, New York City’s top uniformed member of the force, Chief of Department Terrence Monahan, stepped into a crowd of protesters after items were thrown at police, and at the encouragement of protesters who urged the crowd to stop and delivered a message. Then the protesters and Monahan kneeled.
